The Latest Gmail Update: Bad News for MailChimp?

Gmail has recently released a number of new features that seem to be quite similar to the value proposition that MailChimp provides. These include Layouts and Templates, as well as mailing lists. This could be seen as either good news or bad news for MailChimp, depending on how you look at it.

On the one hand, Gmail’s new features could be seen as a direct threat to MailChimp’s business. After all, why would companies need to use MailChimp when they can get all of the same features from Gmail? On the other hand, though, Gmail’s new features could also be seen as a validation of sorts for MailChimp. After all, if Gmail is borrowing so heavily from MailChimp’s playbook, that must mean that MailChimp is doing something right!

Only time will tell how this all plays out. In the meantime, let’s take a closer look at Gmail’s new features and what they could mean for MailChimp.

Gmail’s New Features:

#1 – Layouts and Templates

One of the most significant additions that Gmail has made is the ability to create custom layouts and templates. This is a feature that has long been offered by MailChimp, and it’s one of the things that sets the platform apart from other email providers.

With Layouts and Templates, businesses can easily create beautiful, branded emails that are sure to make a positive impression on their customers and clients. And with a few clicks of a button, they can ensure that all of their emails have a consistent look and feel. This is something that was quite difficult to do with Gmail in the past.

You can select from various layout

Of course, it remains to be seen how easy Layouts and Templates will be to use in practice. If it turns out to be too complicated or time-consuming, then businesses may still prefer to use MailChimp (or another email provider) instead.

#2 – Mailing Lists

Gmail’s New Feature: Mailing Lists
Another significant addition that Gmail has made is the ability to easily create mailing lists. With this feature, businesses will be able to segment their customer lists in any way they see fit. They can create different lists for different products or services, different geographical regions, or even different stages in the sales funnel.

This is another feature that has long been offered by MailChimp and other email providers. And like Layouts and Templates, it remains to be seen how user-friendly this feature will be in practice. If it turns out to be too complicated or time-consuming, then businesses may still prefer using MailChimp (or another email provider).

You can leverage Google contacts to manage your mailing list

Conclusion:
Gmail’s recent update has added a number of features that are very similar to those offered by MailChimp. This could be seen as either good news or bad news for MailChimp, depending on how you look at it. Also worthy to note that this is currently only available for Gmail account on a google workspace, so many entrepreneurs and organizations using Mailchimp that are part of Google Office might discontinue their patronage of mail chimp. On the one hand, it could be seen as a direct threat to MailChimp’s business; on the other hand, though, it could also be seen as a validation of sorts for Mailchimp. Only time will tell how this all plays out.
